Australian pace bowler Brett Lee on Thursday announced he is to retire from all forms of cricket after a 20-year career, saying he was both emotional and excited.
“He has been an exceptional cricketer who gained fans around the world not only for his electrifying pace and performances with the ball, but the way that he played the game,” said Cricket Australia chief James Sutherland. “Sir Donald Bradman often said that it is a player’s responsibility to leave the game in a better state than when they first became involved. Brett Lee has certainly done that.”
Some of Brett Lee’s famous quotes:
“I build myself up with confidence with aggression, and confidence to control the game. If you’re the bowler and you’ve got the ball in your hand you’re controlling the game, so you’ve got to make sure the batsmen knows who’s boss.”
“Heroes come and go, but legends never die” is something that has been said of many sportspersons over the years. As Brett Lee retires, this quote couldn’t be more significant.
The former Australian fast bowler went out with a bang, after delivering a brilliant final over in the final of the Big Bash League (BBL) on Wednesday. With just 8 runs needed to win and with 6 wickets in hand, going into the last over, Perth Scorchers looked like firm favourites against Lee’s Sydney Sixers.
